Background of the Study: Urological conditions, such as urinary tract infections, kidney stones, prostate diseases, and erectile dysfunction, are prevalent among men and can significantly impact quality of life (Yakubu et al., 2023). In many regions, including Taraba State, these conditions often go undiagnosed and untreated due to a variety of barriers that prevent men from seeking appropriate care (Aminu et al., 2024). These barriers are multifaceted, including socio-cultural factors, economic constraints, stigma, lack of awareness, and limited access to specialized urological services (Ali et al., 2023). The stigma associated with seeking care for urological problems, especially those related to sexual health, often prevents men from seeking timely medical attention, resulting in worsened health outcomes (Gbenga et al., 2024).
Despite the growing recognition of the importance of early intervention in managing urological conditions, many men in Taraba State delay or avoid seeking care due to these barriers (Nuhu et al., 2023). This issue is compounded by a shortage of specialized urological healthcare providers and diagnostic facilities, further hindering men from receiving the care they need (Usman et al., 2024). This study seeks to investigate the barriers that male patients in Taraba State face when seeking urological care, to better understand the challenges and develop strategies to improve access to care in the region.
Statement of the Problem: In Taraba State, a significant number of men do not seek timely urological care, often leading to complications and worse health outcomes. The reasons for this lack of care-seeking behavior are not well understood, with potential barriers ranging from socio-cultural factors to healthcare access issues. This research aims to identify and analyze these barriers to seeking urological care among male patients in Taraba State healthcare facilities, with the goal of improving healthcare delivery and encouraging more men to seek necessary urological treatment.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: This study will focus on male patients attending healthcare facilities in Taraba State, specifically those with urological conditions. It will involve interviews and surveys to gather information about the barriers to care-seeking behavior. A limitation of the study is the possibility of underreporting of sensitive issues due to social stigma surrounding urological conditions.
